Quicksand

Warning: this post is extremely random.

I have almost $300 in flight credit for United.

I was supposed to be in Chicago a few weeks ago, but my parents and sister told me I looked like a dead rat and needed to take care of myself before doing any traveling.

I’m still not convinced, but whatever. It is what it is.

Anyways, now I just have this flight credit sitting in my MileagePlus account and I have no idea what the actual fuck to do with it. If you’re a broke college student like myself, you probably already know that United isn’t the most broke-college-student-friendly.

Exhibit A:

Tickets to Helsinki, Finland that line up with UNC’s Thanksgiving Break dates. Why Helsinki, you ask? I think Finland’s a vibe.
Tickets from United for the same timespan.

And before you come at me United PR (who am I even kidding), this example is quite literally reflective of every single one of my experiences with your airline 🥰. Y’all are really trying to squeeze every last cent of my little intern salary from my checking account!

Anyways, this is all to say that I need to get out of here — i.e. Chapel Hill, North Carolina — and I guess now I have a good excuse to drop money for related purposes.

P.S. — I did file my taxes. I am a semi-big girl now (I say that because I am still half-dependent on my parents — thanks mom and dad.)

Update: I ended up using this flight credit literally the day after posting this to buy tickets to New York City for a professional program I’m attending. I’m getting a refund from the program people, but man was that a little too convenient.
